Disaster Relief

Whether it’s a flood, tornado, or hurricane, SBC disaster relief units are the first to bring relief and a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name.  CBA maintains two active/local Disaster Relief units:  one focusing on cleanup & recovery (19R – shared with Sarepta Assoc.), and one specializing in maintaining communications/coordinating relief efforts while normal systems are inoperative.  Other types of disaster relief ministry may include food preparation, meeting spiritual needs (chaplaincy), or specialized skills (chainsaw, etc.)  Training is required and regularly scheduled via the Georgia Baptist Convention.  Contact Horace Maddox at (770) 561-6473 or h_maddox@msn.com for details.  Also check the following websites:

2017 HURRICANES (Harvey & Irma):  Please continue to pray for all affected by the recent hurricanes and stay connected to the most current information from Chattahoochee Baptist Association and Disaster Relief Efforts, opportunities are:

  • Disaster Relief Teams (Training available)
  • Volunteers Teams (Training available)
  • Gift cards.  Local Directors of Missions (Houston, Orlando) have asked for $25 gift cards they can make available to area churches.  The goal is to get relief directly where it’s needed, but also accelerate the ability of local churches to serve their communities (and open doors for the Gospel!)
  • Suggested gift cards:   $25 Gift Cards (Home Depot, Wal Mart, Master Card, Visa)
  • Buckets of Care:  The collection point for these locally is @ Blackshear Place Baptist Churchat least until Sept. 24th.  See GBCMB (link below) for what to include
  •  GBMB Hurricane Relief fund:  1st impulse might be sending water, clothing, etc., but most relief folks “on the ground” encourage monetary gifts.  These provide greater flexibility & also support the local economy.  100% of what is given to this fund will go to relief efforts.
  • Contacts for trips:  FBC Kingsland (just above Jacksonville) is a staging area for disaster relief efforts on the SE Ga. coast.  Staff there can provide a solid connection for lodging, showers, etc.  At least one CBA church (FBC Oakwood) is already on the way.  Give us a call for more info.

GBMB’s website is a great place to connect & obtain information (Click on websties listed below)
